The 2016 Sayaw Kulay Festival

, ,
The 2016 Sayaw Kulay Festival

Last 29 October 2016, the EDSA Shrine – Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA, as pioneered by their Rector, Fr. Lari Abaco with the support of Fr. George Kochuchakkala and Rev. Arnel Calata, Jr. celebrated its first Sayaw Kulay Festival: A Dance Festival of Peace where a total of 13 liturgical dance groups coming from the areas of Rizal, Pasig, Manila, Quezon City, Taguig City, and Makati City participated by means of a “dance competition.” The liturgical dance groups who participated were: The Dreamers (Cainta, Rizal), Legion of Mary (Rosario, Pasig), MHTP Deaf Dancers (Sampaloc, Manila), Ismam & Kidz (Pandacan, Manila), Our Lady of Peace-HJM (EDSA Shrine), Zaion (Taguig City), DMI – INDAK TEJEROS (Makati City), Music Ministry (EDSA Shrine), PASE: Parents of Altar Servers (Pandacan, Manila), In the Name of God Dancers (EDSA Shrine), Makabata School Foundation, Inc. (Sta. Lucia, Pasig City), Lectors and Commentators Ministry (EDSA Shrine), Teatro Sacro Jesu (Sta. Mesa, Manila), and Danza del NiƱo Jesus (Pandacan, Manila).

All dance groups interpreted the officially arranged instrumental version of “Birhen ng EDSA” through their chosen dance medium of basic ballet, jazz, pop, folk and modern dance, that reflected a unique form of prayer in remembering, proclaiming and celebrating the 1986 peaceful EDSA People Power Revolution.

The Sayaw Kulay Festival culminated not only the commemoration of October as the month of the Holy Rosary but also deepened devotion to Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA whose unfaltering intercession and loving protection over the Filipino people brought about the victorious peaceful EDSA People Power revolution that ended the dark era of Martial Law.

The nine colors of peace –orange, gold, turquoise, yellow, pink, green, red, lilac, and blue were highlighted in the dance festival as all dance groups that participated wore these colors to  symbolize: the lighting of dawn for a new beginning (Orange), love destroying walls to unify (Gold), re-learning to trust in God (Turquoise), unwavering of faith for a dignified life (Yellow), persevering hope for the oppressed (Pink), coming about of justice, forgiveness and reconciliation (Green), renewal of the faith (Red), transformation to wholeness (Lilac), peace finding a home in the heart of every Peace-loving people (Blue).

It is our hope that the Sayaw Kulay Festival: A Dance Festival of Peace, becomes a tradition to remember that the 1986 EDSA Revolution has become God’s way to remind us of the gifts of Faith, Hope and Love, where our journey to democracy and peace be relived, which consequently gave birth to EDSA Shrine. The event was not only a night of performance but was an alternative expression of a communal prayer of adoration, praises, offering and thanksgiving to our Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA. The dance participants and shrine-goers alike who were present rekindled the spirit of EDSA. Now, it continues to live amongst us. With our intensified Marian devotion, we are not just mere advocates of peace but instruments and channels of peace.

Remember EDSA

Remember… Proclaim… Celebrate…

Remember… Proclaim… Celebrate…

EDSA.
February 22-25, 1986.
The “Lord has done great things” to the Filipino people,
and to all peoples of the world!
Night of February 22, 1986…
The voice of the shepherd, Jaime Cardinal L. Sin,
was heard over Radio VERITAS.

“Come to EDSA.
Lives of soldiers and civilians
in our military camp are in danger.”

Led by the Blessed Virgin Mary, the “Gentle Woman”,
yet as a Mother, imbued with strength
to protect her beloved children,
millions of Filipinos responded to the call
and filled up the avenues and streets
leading to the camp!!!

They all came to EDSA!
For three days (3) they stood their ground.
They prayed the rosary.
They sang…  They danced.
They offered food and flowers to the soldiers.

Touched by the people’s
unwavering faith and genuine love,
soldiers carrying guns and manning tanks surrendered.
The dictator fled into exile in Hawaii!

The battle was won!!!
“Mercy and faithfulness have met;
Justice and peace have embraced.” (Psalm 85: 11)

The whole world was filled with
admiration and respect for the Filipinos!!!
Indeed, an edifying encounter of Church and State
in a bloodless and peaceful revolution…
A joint effort of religion and politics
for the spiritual and temporal good of the people.

Truly, a shining moment to remember
a real and genuine experience to proclaim
a grace-filled victory to celebrate.

The heart of every peace-loving Filipino
sung in jubilation Mary’s Magnificat.

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for He has done great things for me…
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly…”

Remember… Proclaim… Celebrate…
This is Our Response…
Our Commitment…
Our Mission…

“SAYAW-KULAY FESTIVAL”: A Dance Festival of Peace…
Our unique way of
remembering, proclaiming and celebrating
our experience of
EDSA Peaceful People Power Revolution.

EDSA Peaceful People Power Revolution…

You made Jesus’ Presence Visible…
His Love Incarnate…
His Saving action Experiential…
His Kingdom Come.

EDSA Peaceful People Power Revolution…

Bringing you to prayer and worship
through our “Sayaw-Kulay” Festival,
we remember, proclaim and celebrate
the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
and Mary, The Mother, Queen of Peace,
in the company of all saints,
with love and gratitude!

EDSA Peaceful People Power Revolution –

An Experience… A Memory…
A Way of Being Church… A Way of Life…

We Remember…
We Proclaim…
We Celebrate!!!

Marian Dove, Fly!

,
Marian Dove, Fly!”

(Lucas 1: 39-45).

Sight-seeing o pagninilay…
Vacacion grande o spiritual repose…
Gimmick o pagdiriwang…

Pagsasarili o pag-iisa…
Unahan o ugnayan…
Pagtatanghal o pagbabahagi…

Pagtalikod o pag-aalaala…
Turista o pilgrim…

sa kabutihan at kagandahan ng Dakilang Lumikha;

Ang bakasyonista ay nagiging isang manlalakbay
na naghahanap ng kapahingahan
para sa pagal na katawan at kaluluwa;

sa Kanya at sa isa’t-isa;

At anumang kabutihan ang aking gagawin,
ito’y hindi isang pagtatanghal
kundi isang pagbabahagi

Isang Lakbay-dalangin.

Kasama ni Maria,
Ako ay Pilgrim… Ikaw ay Pilgrim…
Siya ay Pilgrim… Tayo’y mga Pilgrim!!!

Oo, mga Manlalakbay…
Manlalakbay na nananalangin…
na naghahanap kay Hesus!
Manlalakbay na nagdadala kay Hesus sa kapwa,
at ng handog niyang Kapayapaan!

Marian Dove ,Fly”…
Buhay at nagbibigay-buhay
na Pananampalataya… Pag-asa… Pag-ibig!

“Marian Dove ,Fly”…
Pagtanaw sa Kaharian ng Ama,
ang “Walang hanggang Kaharian ng Kapayapaan”
na inihanda ni Hesus para sa atin.

Sa ating “Marian Dove ,Fly”, dadalhin tayo
ng Mahal na Birhen ng EDSA, Reyna ng Kapayapaan,
unang-una, kay Hesus, The Marian Dove,

si Hesus, Prinsipe ng Kapayapaan;

at wagas Pag-ibig;

Maligayang Paglalakbay Sa Inyong Lahat!!!
